text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;]\n<h2>What the connected V16 beacon is (and what makes it different)<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">The <\/span>connected V16 beacon<span class=\"s2\"> is an <\/span>emergency flashing device<span class=\"s2\"> that:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Emits a flashing light<\/b><\/span> to make the stopped vehicle visible.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">When activated, it <span class=\"s1\"><b>automatically sends your location<\/b><\/span> to the <span class=\"s1\"><b>DGT 3.0<\/b><\/span> platform, creating \u201cvirtual visibility\u201d (alerts in navigation systems, apps, panels, etc.).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">  <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"p4\">What matters for a professional driver:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>No phone or app required<\/b><\/span>: it works independently.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">  <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">It includes a built-in <span class=\"s1\"><b>SIM card<\/b><\/span>, and regulations require <span class=\"s1\"><b>a minimum of 12 years of connectivity<\/b><\/span> included (with no extra fees for the user).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">  <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">The DGT highlights the main reason: <span class=\"s1\"><b>avoiding the need for the driver to step out<\/b><\/span> and walk on the road to place triangles, reducing the risk of being hit.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">  <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"p3\">Where it must be placed and how to use it<b><\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It must be <\/span><b>easily accessible (ideally in the glove compartment)<\/b><span class=\"s1\">.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">It should be placed \u201cat the highest point possible\u201d on the vehicle; text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;]\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3><b>Who is required to carry it (logistics and professional drivers)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">In Spain, the DGT is clear: from 2026, (among others) <span class=\"s2\"><b>vehicles used for the transport of goods<\/b><\/span> must carry it as an onboard accessory, in addition to passenger cars, mixed-use vehicles and buses.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Translated into logistics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Trucks<\/b><\/span> (and non-special combinations, according to the DGT text)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Vans \/ delivery vehicles<\/b><span class=\"s1\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Buses<\/b><span class=\"s1\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Motorcycles<\/b><\/span>: <span class=\"s1\"><b>not mandatory<\/b><\/span>, although recommended for safety.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][image_with_animation image_url=&#8221;2119&#8243; text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;]\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3><b>International drivers \/ foreign vehicles: do they need to carry the connected V16 beacon?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Here\u2019s the key for import\/export:<\/p>\n<h4>\u2705 Vehicle registered in Spain<\/h4>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Even if the driver is foreign or the company is multinational: if the <span class=\"s2\"><b>vehicle is registered in Spain<\/b><\/span>, Spanish regulation applies and it <span class=\"s2\"><b>must use the connected V16 beacon from 2026<\/b><\/span>. The DGT defines this as an obligation to <span class=\"s2\"><b>carry the device onboard<\/b><\/span>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">  <\/span><\/p>\n<h4>\ud83d\ude9a Vehicle registered in another country operating internationally in Spain<\/h4>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The DGT has issued a specific instruction: vehicles registered abroad that circulate in Spain under <span class=\"s2\"><b>\u201cinternational circulation\u201d<\/b><\/span> are considered compliant if they carry and use <span class=\"s2\"><b>warning triangles<\/b><\/span> (or an equivalent device according to their national regulations).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">In summary:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Spanish plate<\/b><\/span> \u2192 connected V16 beacon (from 01\/01\/2026)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Foreign plate in international circulation<\/b><\/span> \u2192 may continue using triangles (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dgt.es\/comunicacion\/notas-de-prensa\/20250124-trafico-publica-instruccion-usos-v-16-en-circulacion-internacional\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to their regulations<\/a>)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1764102476145{margin-bottom: 40px !important;}&#8221; text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;]\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3>Who must provide it in fleets, subcontractors and self-employed drivers?<\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">In professional transport, the practical approach (and the one that best matches what the DGT publishes) is to treat it as <span class=\"s2\"><b>vehicle equipment<\/b><\/span>, not as \u201cdriver equipment\u201d:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">The DGT refers to <span class=\"s1\"><b>\u201ccarrying it in the vehicle\u201d<\/b><\/span> and storing it in an accessible place inside (glove compartment), and the list of obligated vehicles refers to the <span class=\"s1\"><b>type of vehicle<\/b><\/span>, not the driver\u2019s employment status.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">  <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\">So, in real operations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Company vehicle \/ company-owned fleet<\/b><span class=\"s1\">: the logical thing is for the <\/span><b>company (owner\/fleet manager)<\/b><span class=\"s1\"> to purchase it and assign one to each unit.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Subcontractor<\/b><\/span>: each company must ensure that <span class=\"s1\"><b>its vehicles<\/b><\/span> comply, just like with safety vests, documentation, etc.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Self-employed driver with their own vehicle<\/b><\/span>: normally provided by the driver themselves (because equipment goes with the vehicle).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Self-employed driver using a company vehicle<\/b><\/span>: same rule applies: if the vehicle belongs to the company, it is reasonable that the <span class=\"s1\"><b>company provides it for that vehicle<\/b><\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\">A practical \u201cfrontline\u201d tip to avoid problems: <span class=\"s2\"><b>one connected V16 beacon per vehicle<\/b><\/span>, included in the departure checklist (along with tachograph, documentation, PPE\u2026).<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1764102824075{margin-bottom: 40px !important;}&#8221; text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;]\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3><b>Privacy: what is sent (and what is NOT)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">This topic creates some noise, so here\u2019s the summary based on the official source:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">When activated, the connected V16 beacon sends <\/span><b>the vehicle\u2019s location<\/b><span class=\"s1\"> and a <\/span><b>technical identifier of the device<\/b><span class=\"s1\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">That identifier <\/span><b>is not linked to a person nor to the license plate<\/b><span class=\"s1\">, and <\/span><b>no personal data is required<\/b><span class=\"s1\"> to purchase it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">When switched off, it <span class=\"s1\"><b>does not transmit data<\/b><\/span>, and when switched on, it cannot be used to reconstruct movements like a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aepd.es\/prensa-y-comunicacion\/notas-de-prensa\/nota-informativa-sobre-baliza-v16-conectada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tracker<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1764102768328{margin-bottom: 40px !important;}&#8221; text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;]\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3><b>Important: not just \u201cany\u201d device is valid.
